Free Lesson Plan – “Save the Sharks” by Bethany Stahl
Sharks are one of the coolest animals in our oceans and they play such an important role in maintaining the health of the entire ecosystem. Scientists estimate that 50 – 80% of the oxygen that we breathe is produced in the ocean which means that our own health is impacted by the health of the oceans. Despite their importance as predators in our oceans, sharks are being overfished at an unsustainable rate and there are a number of shark populations all around the world that are threatened or endangered! Fortunately, there is a lot that we can do to help protect sharks, even if we do not live near the ocean. At The WildLife Movement, we believe that education is key to changing the hearts of children and people everywhere!
We have created a free lesson plan for “Save the Sharks” by Bethany Stahl to help your students learn about the important role that sharks play in our oceans and about the ways that they can help keep shark populations stable and help keep our oceans healthy. In this wonderful story, your students will meet Frank the Shark, who notices that his friends have started to disappear. With the help of Kaleisha the Mermaid and Liam the Diver, Frank learns about the environmental changes, overfishing and pollution that are affecting his friends. Together, Frank, Kaleisha and Liam do their part both on land and underwater to help “Save the Sharks”!
